821 FNUS53 KILX 092003 FWFILX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Central/Southeast Illinois National Weather Service Lincoln IL 303 PM CDT Wed Apr 9 2025 .DISCUSSION... Stiff southerly winds this afternoon will weaken and veer to northerly tonight as a low pressure system drifts across central IL from the northwest. Scattered light showers will continue overnight, with some heavier showers and even a couple thunderstorms tomorrow (Thursday) into tomorrow night; precipitation totals with this wave could reach a half inch where the heaviest showers occur, but most locations are forecast to see between a tenth and quarter inch. Modest mixing heights and generally weak northwest transport winds will result in fair to poor ventilation tomorrow outside of showers. Winds will veer to north-northeasterly tomorrow night into Friday when afternoon mixing heights will improve considerably making for fair to good ventilation. At this time, little chance for precipitation is apparent for both Friday and Saturday, which should allow soils to dry after the recent rains.
