Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
309 AM CDT Thu Oct 16 2025

Clear skies prevailed over Oklahoma and Kansas early this morning as
showers and thunderstorms developed over the High Plains of Colorado
and New Mexico. While most of the Central Plains saw light winds,
portions of eastern Colorado and western Kansas saw gusty south
winds up to 30 to 40 mph. Low temperatures in the 50s and 60s were
observed from South Dakota to the Red River Valley.

Strong south winds will expand throughout the area with gusts in the
20 to 30 mph range from central and western Kansas into Nebraska,
Iowa, and South Dakota. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will
return to portions of the Northern Plains as a cold front tracks
from west to east across the area. Afternoon high temperatures in
the 70s and 80s are forecast throughout the Heartland under partly
to mostly cloudy skies.

Showers and storms will slowly track eastward into portions of
central Nebraska later tonight, with low chances for rain reaching
central and northern Kansas. Low temperatures ahead of the
aforementioned cold front are forecast in the 50s and 60s from
eastern Nebraska into Oklahoma, while areas behind the front will
see readings in the 30s and 40s across the High Plains of Nebraska
and Colorado.
