In 2005, Hurricane Wilma became the most intense
hurricane on record in Atlantic Basin history when her
central pressure dropped to 882 millibars (26.05 inches
in mercury) as she moved northwest over the Caribbean.
Her intensification was EXPLOSIVE.  She transformed from
a tropical storm with 70-mph sustained winds to a
Category 5 hurricane with sustained 173 mph winds in just
24 HOURS.  Her central pressure plunged 88 millibars (2.6
inches in mercury) in 1 HOUR.  Her maximum sustained
winds reached 185 mph.She was the 4th Category 5
hurricane of the 2005 season and the 13th hurricane
overall.  Both are Atlantic Basin records.  During her
12-day lifespan from October 15th to the 26th, she killed
22, of which 5 were in Florida, and caused an estimated
$29 billion damage.
