...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1985, Hurricane Kate made landfall on the coast of
the Florida Panhandle in the evening near Mexico Beach.
Gusts around 100 mph were reported at Cape San Blas
Florida.  At the time, Kate had been the latest hurricane
to hit the United States.
