In 2011, the most powerful storm to strike Northwest Alaska since 1974 did so with sustained winds that reached 66 mph and gusts that reached a nasty 93 mph. Gusts ranging from 55 to 85 mph roared along the Alaskan West Coast. The storm produced torrential rains and a storm surge around 10 feet that inundated coastal communities, while a blizzard raged as the storm moved further inland. Although the vicious storm did not qualify as an Arctic Hurricane (which is similar to its tropical counterpart in that it possesses an eye but in a much smaller diameter) some dubbed the storm a "blizzicane". In 2006, the high in Wichita soared to 86 degrees, the warmest temperature ever recorded for the month of November. && In 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan, the 4th most powerful typhoon on record in terms of central pressure which, at the typhoon`s peak, was 26.43 inches in mercury, roared into the Philipines. Haiyan produced winds that were stunning. As the super typhoon approached the Philipines, 10-MINUTE sustained speeds reached a startling 145 MPH while 1-MINUTE sustained speeds reached a stupefying 195 MPH. Gusts reached 235 MPH, well above the 200-mph threshold for an E F 5 tornado. It is likely that around 6,500 people were killed with damages estimated around $2.86 billion. $$ Auto
