...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1988, severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a
strong cold front from Eastern Oklahoma to Central
Indiana.  Hail around 2 inches in diameter was reported
around Tulsa.  In 1913, it was freshwater fury at perhaps
its worst, when a cyclone developed and rapidly
intensified over the Eastern Great Lakes.  Eight large
ore carriers sank, drowning 270 sailors.  Parts of
Cleveland measured 17.5 inches of snow in 24 hours with a
storm total of 22.2 inches.  The city was also whipped by
winds that averaged 50 mph and with gusts that reached
around 80 mph.The effects of the vicious cyclone were
felt as far away as Central West Virginia, where parts of
the Mountain State were buried under 3 feet of snow.

In 1914, the longest dry spell in United States history
finally ended.Bagdad California, located in the Mojave
Desert, received their first measurable rainfall since
October 3, 1912, a span of 767 DAYS or just over 2 YEARS.
