707 FXUS63 KICT 250348 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 1048 PM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Hot and mostly dry through the weekend and into much if not all of the upcoming week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 136 PM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 Some residual light rain showers were moving slowly eastward across eastern Kansas this afternoon while continuing to slowly diminish as the LLJ/mid-level waa weakens. A capping inversion is anticipated in the wake of the shower activity with little or no additional development anticipated in it`s wake. As we move into the weekend, the mid/upper ridge over the Rockies and Intermountain Region is progged to translate eastward edging into the Central Plains. This is expected to result in mostly dry weather conditions while bringing an increasing threat for excessive heat. Afternoon heat indices are expected to climb into the 105-110 range for much of the area and a heat advisory is in effect for all of the region from Saturday through Tuesday. There may be an upgrade to an excessive heat warning in parts of southeast Kansas where humidity may remain higher. A shortwave trough may serve to break down the ridge as we move into the Tue-Wed timeframe as a frontal boundary tries to sink southward into Kansas before becoming diffuse or stationary bringing some low pops into parts of central and northern Kansas. The mid/upper ridge is also progged to retrograde into the Rockies later in the week bringing some subtle relief from the heat (above normal temperatures continuing) with some isolated or widely scattered nocturnal storm activity associated with the LLJ. && .AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 1046 PM CDT Fri Jul 24 2026 VFR conditions are expected through the forecast period. Light southerly winds will turn southwesterly briefly after 12Z. Then, a weak boundary will sweep across the state during the afternoon that will turn winds out of the southeast through the end of the period. && .ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
