.KEY MESSAGES...

- Continued mild and dry weather through next week.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 122 PM CDT Fri Oct 4 2024

A progressive upper level pattern will allow mid/upper ridging to
return to the area tonight before a fast moving shortwave trough
races eastward along the US/Canadian border on Saturday. This will
help break down the trough and drive another cold front southward
into the area on Saturday night. The front will provide a wind shift
while ushering in more seasonable temperatures across the area on
Sunday. Those near the OK state line will see highs in the upper 80s
while many in northern Kansas will experience afternoon temperatures
in the mid 70s.

This cooldown will linger through Tuesday before values begin to
moderate once again late in the week. We may see a pattern that is
more conducive for nocturnal showers and storms late in the week but
confidence in widespread wetting precipitations remains low at this
time.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 1217 AM CDT Sat Oct 5 2024

Increasing south to southwesterly low level flow will result in
a period of low level wind shear within a few hours of sunrise
early this morning across central Kansas. Unseasonably warmer
air and deeper low level mixing by late morning through the
afternoon will promote stronger surface winds along/west of the
Kansas turnpike. This will occur ahead of another cold front
which will move southward into central Kansas by late this
evening with shift to a north wind.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 122 PM CDT Fri Oct 4 2024

Stout/gusty southwest winds will combine with much above normal
temperatures and very dry grasses resulting in a very high
grassland fire danger over parts of central Kansas on Saturday
afternoon. Please avoid outdoor burning.
