Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
501 AM CST Fri Jan 31 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A band of light-moderate rain and a few embedded thunderstorms
will continue to spread slowly eastward through northern AL this
morning, and should exit the eastern fire weather zones by mid-
afternoon. However, a second round of showers/thunderstorms will
likely impact the region late this afternoon and early this
evening, prior to the arrival of a cold front. Postfrontal low
stratus clouds will be fairly widespread across the TN Valley
early Saturday morning and may linger for much of the day, as low-
level flow slowly returns to the east. Mixing heights will be in
the 3000-4000 ft range both today and Saturday, with fair smoke
dispersion indices falling into the poor-generally poor category
by tomorrow as transport winds diminish to 5 MPH or less. In the
extended portion of the forecast, we expect low-level southerly
flow to return to the region on Saturday night, providing an
increasingly warm/moist airmass for much of the upcoming week.
Although a few showers and thunderstorms may occur on
Wednesday/Thursday, greater chances for rainfall will come beyond
the end of this forecast period.

Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy fog may occur in the
wind-sheltered valleys of northeast AL each night from tonight-
Sunday night.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
