465 FNUS54 KHUN 020932 FWFHUN Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama National Weather Service Huntsville AL 432 AM CDT Tue Sep 2 2025 .DISCUSSION... Showers and a few thunderstorms will continue to develop and expand in coverage across the western half of north AL though the morning hours today, as an approaching upper-level disturbance begins to interact with a surface trough lying immediately west of the region. Although this activity will have a tendency to shift southeastward over the course of the day, it will encounter a drier airmass across the southeastern fire weather zones, resulting in a lower probability for wetting rainfall. A separate cluster of thunderstorms may evolve to our northwest this afternoon, and could potentially also spread southeastward this evening, but should weaken with time as it does so. Otherwise, a few afternoon showers and storms will be possible once again on Wednesday, but with a lower coverage compared to previous days. Due to transport winds of 5-10 MPH and mixing heights of 5000-6000 ft, smoke dispersion will be fair both today and Wednesday. In the extended period, we expect another chance for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday as a cold front drops southeastward into the region. After a brief period of dry conditions Thursday night/Friday, showers and thunderstorms will return on Saturday as a stronger/reinforcing cold front sweeps across the TN Valley. Fog potential over the next few days: Patchy, light fog will be possible in a few locations early this morning and Wednesday morning. Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
