Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
1229 AM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025

...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight)
Issued at 840 PM CDT Mon Aug 18 2025

Rather benign weather tonight as we remain under high pressure
influence from the NE. Storms that developed along the SE edge of
said high pressure today in NE AL and NW GA have drifted south
into central AL leaving us with a clear and dry forecast for the
remainder of the night. Under clear skies, temps are forecast to
drop into the mid to low 70s area wide by 7 AM. Despite clear and
calm conditions, fog is a little more uncertain tonight as shower
and storm coverage today was sparse. Thus, isolated areas of
patchy fog will likely be the the extend of our fog concerns
tonight. Even so, we will remain vigilant through the night
should mother nature try to pull a fast one on us.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tuesday through Thursday)
Issued at 840 PM CDT Mon Aug 18 2025

As high pressure influences our regional weather, Tuesday is
expected to be a relatively warmer summer day across Northern AL
and Southern-Middle TN. Highs should soar into the mid to upper
90s across the region, with heat indices between 100 and 105
degrees by the mid afternoon. As such, a heat advisory is in
effect for central and western counties through 8pm on Tuesday.

A positively tilted, upper-level trough is forecasted to move
into the Midwest late Tuesday evening into the day on Wednesday.
With that trough, a weak cold front is expected to move across the
area around midday on Wednesday. This is forecasted to bring
cooler weather across the area, or at least closer to average, as
winds come in from the north. Highs are forecasted to be more
seasonal, in the lower 90s under mostly clear skies. A few storms
will be possible (40% chance), especially on Wednesday as the
front moves through. No widespread severe weather is expected as
the front moves through. Gusty winds and frequent lightning are
expected to be the main concern for these storms.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Monday)
Issued at 840 PM CDT Mon Aug 18 2025

During the extended forecast, there will be a daily chance for
showers and thunderstorms that give way to lower temperatures. We
will be stuck in weak troughing at the end of the week into the
weekend. A trough axis drifting through the TN Valley will bring low
to medium (20-50%) chances for showers and thunderstorms on Thursday
and Friday. On Saturday, a sfc low will slide into the OH Valley and
bring a cold front with it. As the front encroaches the TN Valley,
it will keep the low to medium chances (30-40%) of showers and
thunderstorms in the forecast. With weak steering flow and elevated
PWATS (1.5-1.9"), storms Thursday through Saturday could produce
gusty winds and heavy rainfall that could create localized flooding
concerns. Heading into Sunday, the cold front will finally move in,
keeping a low chance (20-30%) of showers and storms in the forecast
for one more day. Behind this frontal passage, we will see a break in
the dewpoints and drier air, thus keeping Monday rain free and not
nearly as humid. We will see a steady decline in temperatures
through the extended, starting with highs in the lower 90s on
Thursday and only reaching the low to mid 80s by Monday.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1229 AM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025

VFR conditions are forecast for the TAF, as high pressure at the
surface and aloft control the general weather. Light winds should
continue into the mid morning, afterwards becoming E to SE in the
4-6kt range for much of the afternoon. Winds should become light
Tue evening. No weather of consequence is expected at this time.
