.DISCUSSION...
Mainly moderate precipitation with isolated thunderstorms are
expected to continue overnight tonight and last until the
afternoon hours. Activity will gradually spread southward as we
progress through the early morning hours. Showers are expected
to taper off by early this evening, though cooler than average
daytime highs will last into Saturday before another warming
trend returns for Sunday into next week. The best chance for
snow will be in the highest elevations, or above 8,000 feet, in
the Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Sequoia NP later this morning
through this afternoon. The upper-level trough moves inland
into the Great Basin during the evening hours into Saturday.
However, winds will ramp up by this afternoon in the Kern County
desert, including the Mojave Desert slopes and the desert
floor. Gusts at least 45 mph (50-80 percent chance, with the
higher end of the range towards the Mojave Desert slopes) are
likely to continue in these areas until early Saturday morning.

The likelihood for highs in the mid-80`s rises beginning early
next week and will last for much of the week. Dry conditions
will prevail. The next trough of low pressure arrives by next
Friday, which will provide slightly cooler temperatures and a
slight chance for another round of showers for much of our
forecast area.
