Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
236 AM EST Thu Nov 21 2024

Valid 00Z Fri Nov 22 2024 - 00Z Fri Nov 29 2024

A relatively weak surface high situated north of Hawaii on
Wednesday is expected to remain in place through the end of the
week based on the latest model guidance, with generally light to
moderate easterly trades during this time. The ensemble means
suggest a col will likely develop within the subtropical surface
high as a surface low and trough develops near 35 degrees north
and drops towards the southeast. This col and potentially an
inverted surface trough could be in place across the Islands going
into early next week as well. This could result in more variable
surface winds across the Islands during this time.

In terms of precipitation, the favored east-facing terrain of the
Big Island and extending up to Maui have the best chances of trade
wind based showers each day. However, there are not any strong
signals for major rainfall events over the next 7 days, with most
of the heavier rainfall expected to remain north of the state.
