907 FXHW01 KWNH 310759 PMDHI Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EST Fri Jan 31 2025 Valid 00Z Sat Feb 01 2025 - 00Z Sat Feb 08 2025 At the time of this writing, heavy rain and thunderstorms are ongoing across central Hawaii as a plume of moist (around the 90th percentile for precipitable water values) and unstable air advects into Maui and nearby islands. The moisture plume will gradually shift southward across the state today (Friday) and impact the Big Island with heavy rain and thunderstorms (and snow atop the high summits). Additional flooding is a concern for central islands into the Big Island. Showers are also possible along the actual cold front farther west in Kauai, with much lesser rain amounts. Rain could last across the Big Island into Saturday, but the rest of the islands can expect post-frontal drier and cooler conditions with winds gradually turning from northwesterly to northeasterly through the weekend. Northeasterly winds look to continue into early next week and be a bit breezier, but are forecast to weaken to by midweek and beyond for perhaps some land/sea breezes in a generally dry environment.
