504 WHUS44 KHGX 080917 CFWHGX Coastal Hazard Message National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 317 AM CST Fri Nov 8 2024 TXZ436>439-101500- /O.NEW.KHGX.BH.S.0010.241109T0000Z-241110T1500Z/ Matagorda Islands-Brazoria Islands-Galveston Island- Bolivar Peninsula- 317 AM CST Fri Nov 8 2024 ...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Elevated swells, large surf, above normal tide levels, and a high risk of rip currents expected. * WHERE...Gulf-facing beaches, including the Matagorda Peninsula, Brazoria County beaches, Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula. * WHEN...From this evening through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Large surf and a high risk of rip currents will make for dangerous swimming conditions. In addition, water levels will run above normal and wave run-up will pose a minor coastal flood threat around times of high tide into Sunday morning. The lowest lying portions and roads along the Bolivar Peninsula including the intersection of Highway 87 at 124, western Galveston Island, Blue Water Highway and Surfside may see some minor overwash around those times. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Swimming is not recommended along area beaches this weekend. There are only limited lifeguards on patrol. Be sure to stay away from rocks, piers and jetties where rip currents will be strongest. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
