...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1130 PM HST THIS
EVENING FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY...
At 1018 PM HST, radar continues to show rain forming and moving over
the Kau and Puna districts, with rainfall rates up to 1 inch per
hour. Big Island Civil Defense reports water over Highway 11 in
multiple locations between Pahala and Naalehu.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood
Valley, Volcano, Pahala, Glenwood, Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats,
Mountain View, Hawaiian Acres and Naalehu.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
