Surf Zone Forecast for the Mariana Islands
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
404 PM ChST Sat Nov 8 2025

.DISCUSSION...The various swells and wind waves generated by formerly
Tropical Storm (now Typhoon) Fung-wong (32W) have diminished enough
to no longer produce hazardous surf along south facing reefs, and a
high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs across the Marianas.
As such, the High Surf Advisory and High Rip Current Risk Statement
were cancelled. A moderate risk of rip currents is expected to
continue along north, east, and south facing reefs tonight, before
dropping to low along south facing reefs thereafter as a lingering
southerly swell dissipates. Surf is expected to continue increasing
along west facing reefs as westerly swell from now distant Fung-wong
is expected to make its way to the region, but surf is expected to
remain below hazardous levels at this time.

* Low Risk of rip currents - Strong currents can still occur near
jetties and reef channels. Always have a flotation device with you
in the water.

Moderate Risk of rip currents - Wave conditions support stronger or
more frequent rip currents. Always have a flotation device with you
in the water.

High Risk of rip currents - Large waves will produce strong rip
currents, especially along narrow reefs and beaches. Rip currents
will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel
to the beach rather than against the current.
