Please contact our office by email at nws.gum.operations@noaa.gov if you have questions or concerns with this forecast. .DISCUSSION...The northern Mariana Islands, including Maug, are currently on the eastern edge of the monsoon tail extending from Tropical Storm Nari (06W), with the heaviest showers and thunderstorms currently northwest of Maug. Tropical Storm Nari is currently located near 26N142E and is moving east-northeast but should turn towards the north over the next 24 hours. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue around Maug today and tonight, with the greatest potential for gusty winds expected during the day time hours. As Tropical Storm Nari moves northward, the potential for showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds will decrease across the Marianas Monday. Looking towards the middle of the week, a developing monsoon pater across Palau and western Yap State is expected to shift north to northwest, bringing the next potential for unsettle weather, along with an building southwest swell. .TODAY (MAUG ISLAND)... Sky/weather.........Mostly cloudy (60-70 percent). Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Surface winds (kts).Southeast to south winds 15 to 20 knots. Gusts to 25 knots in showers and thunderstorms. Wave heights........6 to 8 feet. .TONIGHT (MAUG ISLAND)... Sky/weather.........Mostly cloudy (45-55 percent).
