The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended
the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southeastern McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 115 AM EDT.

* At 1104 PM EDT, emergency management reported flash flooding
  following repeated rounds of thunderstorms Friday afternoon and
  evening. Between 4 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional
  rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area.
  Flash flooding is already occurring.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Emergency management reported.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Marion, Glenwood and Dysartsville.

Known creeks experiencing flash flooding include Youngs Fork Creek,
Jacktown Creek, Bledsoe Branch, and Huckleberry Branch. Swift water
rescues have been performed in a few locations southeast of Marion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
