From: Andrew Dixon Service Hydrologist Grand Rapids, MI Subject: Revisions of Flood Category Stages for the Portage River at Vicksburg (VCKM4) Effective Friday, March 21, 2025, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids, MI will change the flood category stages for the Portage River near Vicksburg (VCKM4). All NWS flood warnings, flood statements, flood advisories, flood watches, probability outlooks, and NWS hydrographs on the National Water Prediction Service (NWPS) will reference the new category levels. This change is part of a recent evaluation of the levels based on high water, flood events, and impacts over the past 10 years. The new flood categories will be as follows (all values at level above gage zero datum). Portage River at Vicksburg: Gage zero datum: 839.513 ft above MSL NGVD29 New Flood Categories Previous Flood Categories -------------------- ------------------------- Action Stage: 4.5 ft Action Stage: 5.0 ft Minor Flood Stage: 5.0 ft Minor Flood Stage: 5.5 ft Moderate Flood Stage: 7.0 ft Moderate Flood Stage: 7.0 ft Major Flood Stage: 8.0 ft Major Flood Stage: 8.0 ft The National Weather Service welcomes public feedback.
