767 FXUS63 KGRB 021910 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 210 PM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Forecast discussion for routine afternoon forecast issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Smoke from Canadian wildfires will result in poor air quality and reduced visibilities at times through the weekend and likely into the early part of next week. An Air Quality Advisory is currently in effect until noon Sunday. The Advisory may be extended on Sunday. - Patchy fog may restrict visibilities for motorists at times late tonight and Sunday night. - Dry weather, cool nights, warm days and low humidity are expected through the weekend. Rain chances are not expected to return until the middle to later part of next week (15-30% chance). && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 138 PM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Satellite imagery indicated a plethora of Canadian wildfire smoke swirling aloft this afternoon with METAR observations showing restrictions in visibilities as some of the smoke reaches the surface. High pressure will remain over the Great Lakes region through early next week, with not much change in the airmass. This means the aforementioned smoke will linger across the western Great Lakes aloft and at the surface at times through at least Monday as indicated by the RAP/HRRR Vertically-Integrated and Near-Surface Smoke forecast. An Air Quality Advisory is in effect until noon Sunday and may be extended as needed in subsequent forecasts. Surface ridging should generally keep the forecast dry for much of the upcoming week, as several low pressure systems approach the western Great Lakes, but get deflected northeast by the high pressure system in place. While these low pressure systems are not expected to make it through the state, they could graze central and north-central Wisconsin at times during the middle part of the week, bringing a small (10-20%) chance for showers and thunderstorms. A better chance for showers and thunderstorms (20-30%) arrives late in the week and into next weekend as the ridge breaks down, allowing a cold front to track through the area. The timing and strength of the cold front are still uncertain; therefore, confidence in the timing and intensity of any showers and thunderstorms is rather low. Temperatures will start out around normal for the rest of the weekend into early next week, then edge up to a few degrees above normal from the middle of next week through next weekend. && .AVIATION...for 18Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1202 PM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Areas of smoke and some fair weather cumulus are expected through the TAF period. The height of the clouds should be between five and seven thousand feet. Smoke should lower visibilities into the 3-5 mile range at times. Fog is expected to redevelop again tonight, generally between 07z-12z Sunday, which should burn off quickly after sunrise. Fair weather cumulus are expected again Sunday afternoon. && .GRB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION.....Kurimski AVIATION.......Kurimski
