Forecast discussion for routine afternoon forecast issuance

- Dry conditions for Labor Day weekend. Patchy fog possible late

Labor Day Weekend...East/northeast low-level winds from high
pressure over Ontario and the Great Lakes has allowed for a shallow
layer of low-level moisture and clouds to prevail across much of the
region throughout the morning and into this afternoon. Anticipate
these clouds to gradually dissipate by this evening with the loss of
daytime heating. Skies will be mostly clear overnight, with the
potential for patchy fog to develop early Sunday morning. Expect dry
conditions and above normal temperatures (highs ranging from the
upper 70s to low 80s) to continue through the remainder of the Labor
Day weekend as the high pressure and upper-level ridging remain in
place. Patchy fog may develop late Sunday night into Monday morning
as well.

Rest of the forecast...The ridge and high pressure will gradually
depart late Monday as return flow sets up ahead of an approaching
system/weak cold front progged to move over the area late Monday
through early Wednesday morning. It is too early to determine the
severe potential, but this pattern would favor strong/severe storms
if the storms move through during peak heating on Tuesday. Will
continue to monitor over the coming days. Mainly dry conditions
return for the remainder of Wednesday through early Friday.

.AVIATION...for 18Z TAF Issuance
Issued at 1241 PM CDT Sat Sep 5 2026

A stratus cloud deck with MVFR cigs remained in place across the
area early this afternoon, except in north-central WI where some
clearing occurred. Anticipate the MVFR cloud deck to gradually
rise/dissipate into this afternoon leaving VFR conditions in place
for the remainder of this TAF period. The only exception may be
some IFR/MVFR vsbys due to patchy fog roughly between 07z-12z Sun.

East to northeast winds of 5 to 10 kts are expected for the
remainder of the day, becoming variable and calm overnight.
