946 FXUS63 KGRB 021120 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 620 AM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Updated aviation portion for 12Z TAF issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Smoke from Canadian wildfires will result in poor air quality and reduced visibilities at times through the weekend. An Air Quality Advisory is currently in effect until noon today. The Advisory may be extended later this morning. - Patchy fog may restrict visibilities for motorists at times early this morning, and again late tonight and Sunday night. - Dry weather, cool nights, warm days and low humidity are expected through the weekend. The chance of rain is not expected to return until the Wednesday and Thursday of next week (15-30% chance). && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 347 AM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Skies were mostly clear early this morning, along with areas of fog and smoke. Visibilities at times were down to 1/4 of a mile in dense fog in a few spots, while most areas with smoke or light fog were between 3 and 6 miles. It was cool with temperatures dropping into the upper 40s over the far north with 50s to lower 60s over the rest of the area. Ephraim was the warmest location at 3 am at 62 degrees. The main concern this weekend will be the smoke. An Air Quality Advisory is currently in effect until noon today. With high pressure remaining overhead into Monday, no real source of influx of smoke free air into the region until Monday at the earliest. The HRRR model output has the smoke continuing into Sunday. Suspect that part or all of the Air Quality Advisory may need to be extended later this morning. Will wait for an update from The Wisconsin DNR for the latest information on any changes to the Air Quality Advisory in location or timing. Fair weather cumulus clouds will again develop again late this morning and afternoon, and then again late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. Fairly high based clouds between five and seven thousand feet. Over the last two days, there has been a warm bias in the guidance thus lowered max temperatures today and Sunday by a degree or two. This warm bias in the guidance can be attributed to the smoky skies. For tonight, did lower minimum temperatures a few degrees especially in our typical cold spots across the north. Dry weather is expected to continue through Tuesday with the first chance arriving late Wednesday afternoon but more likely Wednesday. There is a continued chance of showers and storms Thursday and Friday. Rain chances from Wednesday night through Friday are in the 15-30% range. However, will need to watch Monday night into Tuesday as waning convection is expected to move into western Wisconsin. A few light showers could possibly make it into our far western counties. At the moment, rain chances are less than 15% for this period. && .AVIATION...for 12Z TAF Issuance Issued at 614 AM CDT Sat Aug 2 2025 Patchy fog, locally dense at times will rapidly dissipate around 12z this morning. The webcam at the Rhinelander Airport showed the fog was very shallow. For the rest of today, areas of smoke and some fair weather cumulus are expected. The height of the clouds should be between five and seven thousand feet. Smoke should lower visibilities into the 3-5 mile range at times. The fog is expected to redevelop again tonight, gnerally between 07z-12z Sunday which should burn off quickly after sunrise. Fair weather cumlus are expected again Sunday afternoon. && .GRB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION.....Eckberg AVIATION.......Eckberg
