...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1935, a dangerous dust storm moved across Sheridan County, Kansas,
around 3 PM in the afternoon. The dust was so heavy that cars stalled
in Hoxie. Visibilities were near zero, and people stranded in rural areas
of the county used the sparks flying off fences to help guide them as they
walked in the dust. It took one hour to walk one mile in the dusty conditions.

In 1994, heavy snow fell mainly east of Norcatur to Grainfield in
Northwest Kansas. Snow amounts included, 10.5 inches at Kirwin
Dam, nine inches at both Hill City and Stockton, eight inches at
Phillipsburg, and six inches at both Hoxie and St Francis.
