...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1899, one of the most intense Arctic outbreaks in the history
of the United States was in progress. Four all time state record
low temperatures fell on this date that still stand
today, including 47 degrees below zero at Camp Clarke Nebraska.
While few local records exist from this time, those that are
available indicate that the entire area fell to near or below 25
degrees below zero. Culbertson, Nebraska reported a low of 38
degrees below zero. This remains the coldest temperature ever
recorded in the Tri State area.
