In 2009, a strong cold front moved across the High Plains resulting in northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph gusting to 60 mph at some locations. The surface low intensified as it moved into Kansas, producing blizzard conditions across portions of extreme eastern Colorado, northwest Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. At times, visibility dropped to an eighth of a mile from blowing snow and 4 to 5 foot drifts were reported. Interstate 70 remained closed for approximately 6 hours overnight from the Colorado Kansas border west to Aurora, Colorado due to adverse conditions. Snow totals around the area ranged from 2 to 5 inches. $$
