...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT THURSDAY AFTERNOON...

.DISCUSSION...

The Fire Weather Watch for Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties in CO
on Thursday has been expanded in area to include Sherman, Wallace
and Greeley counties in KS, where breezy SW winds and low relative
humidity behind a pronounced dryline may support critical fire
weather conditions during the afternoon.

Winds are expected to weaken after sunset Thursday evening, as a
low pressure system in eastern Colorado progresses eastward over
northwest Kansas. Light winds are expected to persist Thursday
night, however, an abrupt NW or N wind shift will occur around or
shortly after sunrise Friday, as the aforementioned low pressure
system tracks eastward into central Kansas. NW to N winds could
gust to 30-40 mph late Friday morning.
