.DISCUSSION...
Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the entire area today with
west-southwest winds gusting 35 to 55 mph. The strongest gusts are
forecast across Colorado fire zone 252, Nebraska fire zones 79,80
and 81 and Kansas fire zone 001. There is a 20-30% chance for
stronger winds up to 65 mph across Colorado fire zone 252 along with
Nebraska zone 79 and Kansas zone 001. Humidity in the low single
digits and warm temperatures in the mid 70s sets the stage for
quickly spreading fires. Very localized blowing dust with
visibilities around 1 mile can`t be ruled out next to source regions.
Winds are forecast to continue through the evening before a cold
front shifts winds to the north around 11pm MT tonight. Temperatures
are forecast to fall into the low 30s currently tonight.
Critical fire weather conditions are again forecast Friday where a
Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Colorado zones 252 and 253.
There is some concern that winds may not be strong enough for fire
zone 254 so left them out. There is a 40% chance that warm front will
not move through the Fire Weather Watch counties quick enough that 3
or more hours of critical conditions will not occur.
Fire weather concerns continue Saturday as well for the majority of
the forecast area. A strong cold front is forecast to move through
early Sunday morning with wind gusts in excess of 55 mph possible but
humidity is forecast to remain above 20% currently.
