.DISCUSSION...
Winds are forecast to continue to veer to the east and finally become
southerly overnight. A few wind gusts around 25 mph are possible
through the remainder of the afternoon but overall fire weather
concerns are fairly minimal. A bit drier for Thursday as
temperatures rise into the mid to upper 80s and humidity falls into
the low 20s across eastern Colorado and western portions of northwest
Kansas. Winds may be a little breezier than today (Wednesday) but
overall winds are forecast to remain around 25 mph or less.
Fire weather concerns do begin to increase Friday as even lower
humidity values are forecast and a strong signal for gusty winds up
to 40 mph are forecast. The lowest humidity which is forecast across
eastern Colorado may not coincide with the continuous strongest
winds across northwest Kansas but deep mixing may still support some
gusts around 35-45 mph resulting in elevated fire conditions.
Saturday, the winds look even stronger across the entire area with
high confidence in 40-45 mph gusts possibly as high as 55 mph.
Humidity does increase some into the low to upper 20s but with the
strengthen of the winds elevated fire weather conditions are again
forecast. The strength of the winds also leads to very high to
extreme grassland fire danger index (GFDI) values. A wind shift also
remains forecast Saturday evening. Blowing dust may also be present
Saturday.
