.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 309 PM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

Today and tonight...

An upper low/trough is over south central Nebraska and north central
Kansas. There is enhanced lift associated with this upper low with
showers and thunderstorms developing and moving across the area.
These storms are not expected to be severe with low mid-level lapse
rates and low wind shear. Mostly cloudy skies and nearby high
pressure will keep temperatures today cooler with highs in the low
to mid 80s. Winds will mostly be out of the east today ranging from
east to southeast. Showers and storms will diminish in coverage this
evening into tonight with winds becoming more southerly. Low
temperatures tonight are expected to be in the mid 60s to near 70
degrees. Areas of patchy fog will be possible tonight with recent
rainfall and light south to southeast winds.

Saturday through Monday night...

An upper ridge will be centered over the southeastern part of the
country on Saturday with the back edge of the ridge extending back
towards Nebraska and Kansas. Winds will be out of the south with
clearing skies across south central and central Nebraska and north
central Kansas. Temperatures will begin to heat up with highs in the
upper 80s to upper 90s. Dewpoint temperatures will be in the 60s and
70s which will contribute to heat index values reaching near/around
100 degrees in many areas. Low temperatures Saturday night will be
in the mid 60s to low/mid 70s.

The upper ridge will have more impact across the area on Sunday with
winds increasing out of the south. Sunny to mostly sunny skies are
expected with temperatures heating up into the mid 90s to over 100
degrees. Dewpoint temperatures will again be in the 60s and 70s
which will contribute to heat index values climbing up to around 100
to around 110 degrees. Low temperatures Sunday night will range from
the mid/upper 60s to mid 70s with most locations in the 70s.

The upper ridge will be more centered over the central part of the
country on Monday. Southerly winds will continue across the area
with sunny to mostly sunny skies. High temperatures on Monday will
be similar or slightly warmer than the previous day. Heat index
values will generally range from around 100 to near 115 degrees. Low
temperatures Monday night will be in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Tuesday through Thursday...

The upper ridge on Tuesday will be hampered somewhat by an
approaching cold front. Showers and thunderstorms may develop by
Tuesday evening generally along and north of I-80. This may result
in high temperatures not being as hot as expected across the above
mentioned area for Tuesday. In general, expect high temperatures on
Tuesday from the Tri-Cities southward to range from the mid 90s to
around 100 degrees. Heat index values for Tuesday may range from the
mid 90s to near/around 105 degrees. Temperatures Tuesday night will
likely be cooler with lows in the mid 60s to low 70s. Rain and storm
chances increase to around 65% as the cold front moves into the
area. Showers and thunderstorms continue on Wednesday with the front
possibly still across the area. Temperatures on Wednesday will be
cooler with highs ranging from the mid 70s to lower 90s.
Temperatures will continue to cool for Wednesday night with lows in
the low to mid/upper 60s. Rain and storm chances continue for
Thursday with chances of 40% or less. High temperatures for Thursday
are expected to be in the mid 70s to low/mid 80s.
