.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Temperatures will remain above normal through Thursday.

- Colder temperatures and more unsettled weather is expected late
in the week and through the weekend.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Cold high pressure will be moving east today. A slight disturbance
in the mostly westerly flow will bring a few showers to the
northeast corner of the state through the afternoon.

An upper ridge will be building along the front range bringing warmer
air northward. By Thursday a deep Pacific trough moves onshore
with low pressure developing over southern Alberta/north central
Montana. As the upper trough continues eastward it develops a
split, pulling the surface low southward until a deep closed low
develops over the southern plains Thursday night.

In the northern stream as the surface low moves south across
Montana on Thursday night/Friday, a band of precipitation will
slide through the region. The precipitation is expected to start
as rain, then transition to snow as colder air moves in from the
north.

The remainder of the forecast is a partial repeat, with ridge
building before a trough moves through with a cool down and chance
of precipitation early next week.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Precipitation amounts seem to be trending downward, and moving
through quicker, with storm total compressing from 36 to 24 hours.
Snow totals are less than an inch, but could see some icing
conditions with temperatures dropping to around or below freezing
for Friday morning.
