Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Glasgow MT

.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) An isolated thunderstorm is possible this evening along the
Canadian border west of Opheim.

2) Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 8am until 9pm for today.

3) Seasonable warm and mainly dry weather is expected for Sunday.

4) Expect thunderstorms to return by the middle of next week with
a more active weather pattern.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Radar and observations show lingering showers near the MT/ND
border, especially near Sidney and south. This activity will push
east during the morning hours. Meanwhile, hires model guidance
shows some potential this evening for an isolated thunderstorm
along the Canadian border, especially west of Opheim.

UPper ridging across the western U.S. extends into Montana
otherwise this weekend. This large scale subsidence will drive
seasonably warm and dry weather conditions over the weekend for
the most part, extending into early next week.

During the midweek, ensembles point to the ridge translating east
with new low pressure system arriving from the west. This may
ensure a return to more active weather with chances for
thunderstorms making a return.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

NBM was largely used this forecast cycle which captured trends
well. An exception was to blend in NBM90 into the short term winds
to best reflect the Lake Wind Advisory for Fort Peck Lake.

Confidence is medium to high for seasonably warm and dry
conditions this weekend, reduced only by the outside chance for an
isolated thunderstorm along the Canadian border.
