.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Hot temperatures, dry humidity, and light and variable winds are
common across most of northeast Montana today.

- A few scattered thunderstorms are possible south of the
Yellowstone River Valley this afternoon and evening.

- Thursday evening and beyond, a more widespread active weather
pattern sets up for accumulating rain possible later this
  weekend.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

The strong ridge of high pressure today over most of the western
states has reached its influence even this far northward through
Montana. Dry and stable conditions are preventing any thunderstorm
activity north of the Yellowstone River valley, but more favorable
moisture and instability are setting off strong to severe
thunderstorms from SE Montana toward South Dakota. A few periphery
or edge thunderstorms headed for Baker, MT might push out some
gusty winds into our Wibaux County this afternoon/evening.

By Thursday evening, southwest flow aloft will return to our
region along with decent humidity. Some model data is beginning to
hint at a more active storm pattern later this weekend, with
widespread chances for accumulating rain.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Confidence is high on the warmer temperatures today and cooler
temperatures on Thursday. Average to below average confidence for
precipitation details later this weekend.

Deviated from the NBM to provide more accurate and detailed wind
forecasts for Days 1 and 2. NBM was mainly trusted otherwise.
