460 FXUS65 KGGW 260736 AFDGGW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 136 AM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025 .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES: - A few strong to severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. - Chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue into next week, and temperatures will come down slightly. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A small, weak shortwave with some elevated instability is allowing a bout of thunderstorms to move through areas along the Missouri River through late this morning. A few strong, isolated wind gusts are expected to move through with this activity. By the middle of the afternoon, decent daytime heating will occur ahead of another, more potent shortwave trough. Strong to severe wind gusts are the most likely hazard from about 3 PM through at least midnight today. A shortwave trough will move through on Sunday to bring scattered thunderstorms late in the afternoon. There is low certainty on the strength of the wind gusts with this activity in the western part of the area though. The ridge will weaken slightly to help bring temperatures down a bit this week. With a bit more influence from the low pressure trough in the western United States, multiple opportunities for thunderstorms will continue. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: There is high confidence in many temperatures reaching the 90s for high temperatures today. There is moderate (50 percent) confidence of the entire area seeing strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon through the middle of the overnight tonight. There is low (30 percent) confidence of strong thunderstorms occurring again on Sunday afternoon and evening. There is low confidence on timing, location, and strength of thunderstorms beyond Sunday, and high confidence in high temperatures coming down a bit this week. Deviated from NBM to increase PoPs based on recent CAMs. Mixed NBM 90 into winds for most of today. && .AVIATION... LAST UPDATE: 0900Z on July 26th. FLIGHT CAT RANGE: VFR, with MVFR/IFR in thunderstorms. DISCUSSION: There is high (90 percent) confidence a small trough will bring an isolated thunderstorm and MVFR conditions to KOLF and KSDY from now through about 15Z. This activity will diminish before scattered strong to severe thunderstorms occur again later today. There is moderate confidence thunderstorms will bring MVFR/IFR conditions to KSDY and KGDV between 21Z and 08Z Sunday. There is moderate confidence thunderstorms will bring MVFR/IFR conditions to KOLF and KGGW from 02Z to 09Z. Strong to severe erratic winds are expected with all thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. WINDS: Light and variable winds, becoming north northeast at 6 to 15 knots after 15Z.
