.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

 - Mild and dry conditions expected through the weekend.

 - More variable weather by the middle of next week.

DISCUSSION:

Split flow pattern over western North America with a closed upper
low centered on New Mexico and a ridge extending from Montana
northward. As the low transitions through the central plains over
the weekend, it could approach close enough to bring some
precipitation into southeast Montana. At the same time the
northern stream will flatten out and the first in a series of
shortwaves moves across the Canadian Rockies, detaching the lee
trough, sending it southeast through Montana on Sunday.

Early next week the blocking pattern continues to break down and
flow off the Pacific becomes more active. A series of upper lows
drop out the Gulf of Alaska into across the Pacific Northwest and
Northern Rockies. While most of the moisture is expected to remain
west of the Divide, chances for precipitation will be slightly
better.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

The upper low lifting though the central Plains on Saturday will
bring precipitation close to the southeast corner of the cwa, with
very low probability of spilling over into Wibaux county (< 10%).

Other areas of uncertainty in the forecast are with timing of the
various upper troughs moving across the region next week. There
will be temperature fluxuations with these features, but chances
of precipitation are currently very low (10-30%).
