.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Above average temperatures and dry weather will continue today.

- Scattered light rain showers move into the region from the west
  tonight.

- Gusty west to northwest winds to develop on Wednesday.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

Upper ridging will maintain mild and dry weather conditions over
the region today before the upper trough off the Pacific Northwest
moves onshore. This will help increase the pressure gradient across
eastern Montana with the strengthening of the lee trough in
central Montana. As the upper trough moves into the northern
Rockies the lee trough will push east. Moisture is limited but
there could be a few light rain showers with the frontal passage
on Tuesday.

Gusty west to northwest winds and cooler temperatures will follow
on Wednesday with afternoon winds ranging from 15 to 30 mph,
gusting to 40 mph. This will likely least to the first Lake Wind
Advisory of the season. The slightly cooler temperatures will also
lower the fire weather concerns.

For the remainder of the week, the upper ridge will begin to
rebound with warm and dry conditions. The next trough passage is
potentially this weekend.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Used a blend with the NBM90 through Tuesday night to begin
introducing stronger post frontal winds. Wednesday is current
beyond the HREF period, but there is a moderate (40-50%) chance
for marginal fire conditions (<25% RH, >25 mph wind) by Tuesday
afternoon across some of the western zones.
