.DISCUSSION...
KEY MESSAGES:

1) A cooler airmass will continue to settle into the area tonight
with lows mainly in the 50s.

2) Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase tonight from the

3) An area of thunderstorms, likely to contain damaging winds will
move east across mainly the southern zones late Saturday. Have
multiple ways to receive warnings.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

A cold front has turned stationary over southern Montana this
afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are lifting northeast into
central Montana but are expected to weaken by this evening and
should be mainly in the form of showers late tonight over NE
Montana.

An upper trough will move across western and central Montana on
Saturday and eastern Montana later Saturday. A surface low will
develop along the MT/WY border which will combine with an unstable
atmosphere and strong wind shear for showers and thunderstorms at
times with some storms becoming severe. SPC currently has a
Slight Risk for severe weather over most of eastern Montana, along
and south of the Missouri river.

While the trough moves to the east on Sunday, chances for showers
and thunderstorms will linger mainly along the Canadian and North
Dakota borders.

Warmer temperatures return next week and highs will be in the 90s
in most areas starting on Tuesday and continuing through at least
Thursday with mainly dry weather. TFJ
