.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

1) Chance for showers will continue today in the southern zones.
Otherwise, mainly dry weather is expected through Thursday
morning.

2) Warmer temperatures return for Wednesday and Thursday with hot
conditions expected this weekend with highs possibly near 90 on
Sunday.

3) Weak disturbance could bring scattered showers & thunderstorms
Thursday afternoon and night.

WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW:

There will be a large closed upper low today across the SW US between
California and Texas which will bring rain showers to southern Montana
and bring chance for showers as far north as the Missouri River. To the
north of this low, an upper ridge builds over northern Montana and the
Canadian Prairies which will keep areas north of the Missouri River
mainly dry today. The upper low moves east tonight and Wednesday and the
upper ridge strengthens over the forecast area. Gusty south winds develop
on Wednesday which will make a Lake Wind Advisory likely for Fort Peck Lake.

A weak disturbance will move east through the area Thursday afternoon and
night that brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms with it.

The upper ridge surges north again over the weekend before a
Pacific trough moves in early next week. This will bring temps
back into the 80s to near 90.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS:

Confidence is low on the chance of showers today. Confidence is high on the
gusty south winds on Wednesday and warmer temperatures Wednesday and beyond.

Generally went with NBM on all elements.
