...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING...
.DISCUSSION...
Persistent hot and dry conditions have resulted in ample cured
grassy and brushy fuels available to burn across the region. While
temperatures will top 100 degrees in many areas, humidity values will
drop to around 25%, particularly along and west of US-281 this
afternoon. These conditions will be coupled with persistent south
winds of 15-20 mph, gusting at times to near 30 mph prior to sunset.
These conditions will be favorable for an increase in grass fire activity
across the region this afternoon and evening.
While the wind speeds will abate slightly from Friday through the weekend,
afternoon relative humidities will drop into the 25-30% range west
of I-35 each day. Continued elevated fire weather concerns will thus
prevail through the weekend, and indeed through most of the coming week.
No rainfall is expected through next week.
