...EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING...
.DISCUSSION...
Elevated fire weather conditions will develop this afternoon,
especially along and west of I-35. Relative humidity will bottom
out between 15-20% with extremely hot temperatures and breezy
southwesterly winds around 15-20 mph. Today`s weather conditions
will increase the difficulty to control fires given the potential
for spread. A Grass Fire Danger Statement has been issued for
today for areas along and west of I-35. Conditions will begin to
improve closer to midnight as relative humidity rises above 30%.
Lighter winds are expected the rest of the week, thus, the fire
weather threat will also diminish. Although IA type fire will
continue to be possible, the potential for rapid fire spread will
remain low.
