Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
320 AM CDT Sun Apr 20 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Rain returns to the area east of I-29 today. This will result in
cooler high temperatures in this area with highs only reaching up to
the 50s. West of the interstate will see highs up to upper 50s and
low to mid 60s. Humidity values could fall to near critical levels
across parts of central South Dakota but winds will be light during
the afternoon hours. This will only result in minor elevated fire
danger at best.

Monday will be a mostly dry day with highs further warming to the 60s
and 70s. While near critical to critical humidity levels look to be
reached, especially along and west of I-29, winds will be light.
Elevated fire danger is possible but overall shouldn`t see any fire
danger concerns.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the high category
this afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions and low
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material
on the ground, indicate that there is a high potential for
a fire to spread.. Outdoor burning should be restricted to
early morning or evening hours, when wind speeds are usually
lower and the relative humidity is higher.

OUTLOOK FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the high category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or
lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic
material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential
for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely
monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR MONDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the moderate category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
