Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
354 AM CDT Fri Oct 18 2024

.DISCUSSION...
A weak cool front will move slowly east today, reaching south
central to northeast South Dakota by late afternoon. This front
will bring lighter winds with variable directions to western parts
of the area today, along with low rain chances this afternoon.
East of the front, dry and windy conditions continue. Although
wind speeds will be slightly lower and humidity levels slightly
higher than the past couple of days, Very High grassland fire
danger is still likely. Please continue to use caution if working
in the very dry fields and grassland areas.

Scattered showers may produce 0.10 to 0.25 inch rainfall in south
central South Dakota tonight, and spotty very light rain may work
east toward I-29 and portions of southwest Minnesota. Saturday
will feature lighter winds and lower fire danger, but breezy and
dry conditions return to most areas through the first part of next
week.

People are urged to exercise care with outdoor activities that
could cause grass fires. Avoid equipment that can cause sparks
near dry grass or crops. Do not toss cigarettes on the ground.
Report new fires quickly to the nearest fire department or law
enforcement office.
