Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
340 AM CDT Sat May 24 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Cool conditions with periods of showers continue through the
holiday weekend and possibly into mid next week. Greatest chances
for rain through the weekend remain along and south of the MO
River Valley into south central SD, where locations could pick up
another half an inch of rain through Tuesday. Risk of
thunderstorms remains low, but isolated storms can`t be ruled out.
Expect winds to become and remain easterly through the weekend,
with occasional gusts of 15-25 mph.

Fire danger remains low with RH values above 35%, continued rain
chances, and recent green up of fuels.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
