709 FNUS63 KFSD 060835 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 335 AM CDT Tue May 6 2025 .DISCUSSION... Although minimum humidity values drop to 20-25% for most of the area this afternoon and evening, light (less than 10 mph) and variable winds most of the day along with recent green up will temper widespread concerns. Winds increase mid week, but increasing humidity and continued green up should again help to temper fire danger. Dry conditions prevail through the week, with low (20% or less) chances for rain in the MO River Valley today and for the MO River Valley into northwestern IA Wednesday into Thursday. Any precipitation would likely amount to a few hundredths of an inch at best. Temperatures in the 70s to around 80 by the end of the week. Warm, breezy southerly winds, and dry conditions expected for this weekend. The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
