The tornado moved slowly to the southeast, destroying a farm outbuilding and then moved across the Hwy 44/47 intersection where it damaged power poles and a DOT truck shelter. The tornado continued southeast for another 12 minutes across open country before roping out approximately 4.5 miles northwest of Lucas SD. The tornado was rated EF-1 with an estimated maximum wind gust of 110 mph. Rating: EF-2 Estimated Peak Wind: 135 mph Path Length /statute/: 8.05 miles Path Width /maximum/: 100 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: July 28, 2025 Start Time: 5:38 PM CDT Start Location: 8.4 NW Bonesteel SD Start Lat/Lon: 43.1963/-98.9832 End Date: July 28, 2025 End Time: 6:06 PM CDT End Location: 0.4 N Bonesteel SD End Lat/Lon: 43.0831/-98.9468 A tornado touched down in remote open country approximately 8.4 miles northwest of Bonesteel SD. The tornado damaged power poles along County Road 57 and then moved southeast for 23 minutes across rough open country west of the Missouri River. The tornado then destroyed a single family home and two nearby outbuildings along Hwy 1806. The tornado continued southeast toward Bonesteel SD, flipping a camper and destroying an abandoned trailer before dissipating over the ball fields on the north end of Bonesteel. The tornado was rated EF-2 with an estimated maximum wind gust of 135 mph. The tornado raced southeast and destroyed a large barn before lifting in another corn field approximately 3.0 miles east-southeast of Alvord IA.
