654 FXUS65 KFGZ 200521 AFDFGZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 1021 PM MST Sat Apr 19 2025 .SYNOPSIS...The low pressure system that brought rain and snow to the region over the past two days has moved east of the state this evening. Dry and much warmer weather is on the way over the coming week. && .UPDATE...Skies have cleared this evening as the storm system that brought rain and snow to the region Friday and in eastern Arizona today has moved east. After a cold night tonight, a dry and much warmer week is on the way. No forecast updates are needed this evening. && .PREV DISCUSSION /428 PM MST/...The center of our most recent low pressure system was located over west-central New Mexico at mid afternoon, rapidly heading eastward. Moisture wrapping around the low was continuing to produce a few snow showers over far eastern Arizona along the New Mexico border. All indications are that the remaining precipitation will come to an end by the early evening. For tonight...Clear skies along with light and variable winds are in store as the low exits the state. Drier air moving in from the northwest will usher in low temperatures 5 to 15 degrees below normal, especially at any higher elevations that remain snow covered. Starting Sunday and through the workweek...A dry west to northwest flow aloft will set up over the southwest United States. As a result, a milder air mass will move over Arizona through the week with warming daytime temperatures. Sunday high temperatures will approach near average for this time of year with temperatures then climbing to 5 to 10 degrees above average by Wednesday. Otherwise, generally clear skies are forecast with west to southwest afternoon breezes at 5 to 15 mph each day. There could be some strengthening of breezes come Thursday and Friday as a trough approaches the west coast strengthening surface pressure gradients across Arizona. && .AVIATION...Sunday 20/06Z through Monday 21/06Z...Expect VFR conditions and light winds. OUTLOOK...Monday 21/06Z through Wednesday 23/06Z...Expect VFR conditions.
