Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.62 miles Path Width /maximum/: 350 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/06/2025 Start Time: 03:56 PM EDT Start Location: Flat Rock / Muscogee County / GA Start Lat/Lon: 32.5445 / -84.8633 End Date: 04/06/2025 End Time: 04:00 PM EDT End Location: 1 SW Midland / Muscogee County / GA End Lat/Lon: 32.5649 / -84.8275 Survey Summary: A supercell embedded within a line of strong to severe thunderstorms generated a tornado that touched down in northern Muscogee County, just a few miles northeast of downtown Columbus. The tornado did its work quickly, initially touching down in the Beaver Run neighborhood. Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted along Widgeon Road and Trapper Way, extending to Psalmond Road. Structural damage in the neighborhood was mainly confined to a few homes with trees falling on them. No injuries occurred in this area. The tornado continued to track northeast, crossing the Bull Creek Golf Course. Numerous additional trees were down across the 500-acre public course. Unfortunately, 2 people trying to seek shelter under a tree during the storms were killed. Based on the location of where the fatalities occurred, we believe they weren`t in the direct path of the actual tornado but very strong (75+ mph) inflow winds helped snap the trees. The tornado paralleled Hwy 27 (alternate) also known as Manchester Expressway snapping and uprooting additional medium to large-sized trees. EF- 1 damage is estimated between the Beaver Run neighborhood and Lynch Road near Hwy 27 (south side) where maximum winds were around 90 mph. Additional trees were snapped along Jackson Road and Lynch Road but a weakening trend is noted in the damage here. A few branches down along Midland Woods Drive (just south of Hwy 27) is where an estimated ending point is located. No additional damage was noted to the northeast of this area. .Bibb-Twiggs Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 90 mph Path Length /statute/: 7.94 miles Path Width /maximum/: 0 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/06/2025 Start Time: 05:45 PM EDT Start Location: 3 WNW Huber / Twiggs County / GA Start Lat/Lon: 32.7426 / -83.5861 End Date: 04/07/2025 End Time: 06:03 PM EDT End Location: 2 E Dry Branch / Twiggs County / GA End Lat/Lon: 32.7969 / -83.4663 Survey Summary: A broken line of storms exhibiting occasional rotation (known as a Quasi-Linear Convective System, or QLCS) moved across Bibb and Twiggs counties and produced a tornado that began near the county border but progressed into northern Twiggs county. The beginning of the tornado is noted as being within the Bond Swamp National Wildlife Refuge at 5:45pm. This is a best estimate based on radar, as these areas are only accessible by foot or other means. This may be modified in a future update based on satellite data. The first indications of damage were along Highway 23 as the tornado emerged from the swamp directly along the Bibb-Twiggs County line. Tree damage could be seen along both sides of the roadway. Numerous trees had been snapped several feet above ground, with a few others uprooted, likely caused by winds of approximately 90 mph (EF-1). These impacted and brought down powerlines along the roadway. Broadcast media passed along tree damage that occurred near the broadcast towers located between Highway 23 and I-16 that was similar in magnitude. The tornado passed over I-16, causing more tree damage, then impacted Marion Road, where more uprooted and snapped trees were found consistent with EF-1 damage. The tornado continued northeast with an expanding wind field as it passed through a mostly unpopulated area with tree farms and other operations. EF-1 impacts were seen to trees along the intersection of Parker Rd and Riggins Mill Road, though a tree fell and impacted a home on Riggins Mill Rd. The tornado reached its widest point along Parker Road as it approached and passed over Hwy 80, with widespread EF-1 tree damage along Parker Road. The tornado continued to the northeast through an inaccessible area and weakened after this. Some very minor tree damage was found along Georgia Kaolin Rd where a tree fell in a church parking lot and a few snapped branches were observed. The tornado likely lifted very near this point, given no observed tornado damage along Old Gordon Rd to the north. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
