932 FXUS62 KFFC 050921 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 421 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025 ...Morning Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 407 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025 - Well above normal temperatures through the weekend. - Showers and a few storms likely this afternoon and evening and again Thursday afternoon. Strong or severe storms not expected. - Unsettled pattern with chances for showers becoming more widespread early next week. - Slightly cooler temperatures early next week due to possible cold air damming pattern over north and northeast Georgia. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday) Issued at 407 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025 No significant forecast concerns or weather impacts expected in the short term period. Clouds with scattered showers and even a few storms will spread across north Georgia late this afternoon and evening. No heavy rain expected with amounts through Thursday only averaging around 0.25 to 0.50 inches. However, instability should be sufficient for some convection. Instability and low and mid level shear will be insufficient for any strong to severe storms. If any threat for marginally strong storms were to materialize, it would be over far NW counties during the evening. Further south, over middle Georgia, should remain dry but could see some isolated showers. Precip coverage expected to decrease after midnight tonight but still some chance over the far north. With E-W oriented baroclinic zone lingering across TN near the state line and fast zonal, likely will see another batch of showers and some thunderstorms Thursday afternoon. SNELSON && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 407 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025 A quasi-zonal upper pattern will continue through the period. The upper pattern supports a rapid succession of weak frontal systems clipping the area or moving into the area and becoming diffuse. A very slow-moving upper low over NE Mexico and the W Gulf will spread increasing PWATs northward into the stronger W-E flow. As a result of this and periodic weak frontal forcing and modest instability, scattered showers will continue through Friday. A few thunderstorms are possible across N GA Thursday evening with MUCAPES around 500 J/kg, but strong to severe storms are not anticipated. Storm total rainfall amounts during this period will range from around a half inch across N GA to a few hundredths (or less) S of Macon. After a brief break in the precip, showers will return Saturday night and Sunday with around a tenth of an inch across N GA. The aforementioned upper low will eventually lift NE by early next week as upper flow becomes more SW. At the surface, a more significant frontal system will approach the area, with more significant rainfall possible. Temperatures are forecast to remain above normal through the weekend. Temperatures will be around 20 degrees above normal through Sunday. By early next week, temperatures will be slightly cooler, particularly for daytime highs due to increased cloud cover. /SEC && .AVIATION...
