.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Tuesday)
Issued at 234 PM EDT Mon Jul 21 2025

Key Messages:

 - A Heat Advisory has been issued for central Georgia on Tuesday.

 - Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will occur again on
Tuesday, with the potential for strong winds gusts and isolated
tree damage in east central Georgia.

Heat Considerations for Tuesday:

Hot and humid conditions will remain prevalent in Georgia on
Tuesday. This has prompted us to issue Heat Advisory for portions of
central and eastern Georgia from noon to 8 PM. Forecast high
temperatures in the upper 90s and afternoon dewpoints in the mid 70s
should once again push heat indices into the triple digits. The
most intense heat indices, between 105 and 109 degrees, are
expected within the area covered by the Heat Advisory. These
values are most probable between noon and 4 PM, due to the
potential for thunderstorms to bring cooling rains by late
afternoon. Thunderstorms are the most likely fail point for the
Heat Advisory. For areas along and north Interstate 85, including
the Atlanta Metro, heat indices of 100 to 104 degrees are
expected. This is just below the Heat Advisory criteria of 105.
Anyone participating in outdoor activities on Tuesday should take
precautions to limit the risk of heat related illness.

Tuesday Thunderstorm Trends:

A weak trough along the Georgia/Carolina coastline, backdoor cold
front sagging south through northeast Georgia and lingering moisture
will help afternoon and evening thunderstorms continue on Tuesday.
The timing of the fronts arrival and convective initiation along the
sea breeze suggest a later peak in convective activity on Tuesday
(compared to today). Guidance from the HREF favors east central
Georgia for the best convective threat 4 PM and 10 PM. Some storms
in this region may take advantage of favorable surface
convergence, PW values in the 2.2 to 2.4 inch range, and SBCAPE of
1000 to 2000 J/kg to produce strong cold pools. This may lead to
organized clusters of storms with wind gusts in the 40-60 mph
range. Isolated pockets of tree or powerlines damage are
possible.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday morning through next Sunday)
Issued at 234 PM EDT Mon Jul 21 2025

Key Messages:

 - Afternoon and evening thunderstorms will continue between
   Wednesday and Saturday.

 - Temperatures will cool during the middle part of the week,
removing the potential for Heat Advisory conditions.

Rest of the Workweek:

Afternoon and evening thunderstorm activity will continue across
Georgia through the end of the workweek. PW values will continue
to be at or slightly above 2 inches, but shear will be very
limited. This should keep any severe weather risk isolated, with
the main concern being down burst winds due to organized clusters
that develop above average cold pools. An isolated flooding threat
may also exist each day due to slow moving storms and rain rates
in the 2 to 3 inch per hour realm.

Tomorrows cold front should help push temperatures down by a few
degrees midweek. Expect this to combine with above average cloud
cover and afternoon rainfall to limit afternoon highs to the lower
90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Temperature should begin to
rebound Friday and Saturday, and there is a chance (20%) that we
could again approach Heat Advisory criteria by Saturday or Sunday.
