804 FXUS62 KFFC 260623 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 223 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 ...Morning Area Forecast Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday) Issued at 221 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 Key Messages: - A Heat Advisory remains in place for portions of east central Georgia from noon to 8 PM today. - An additional Heat Advisory has been issued for Sunday in east central Georgia. - Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the mountains and along the GA/AL border between 1 PM and 9 PM today. Today & Tonight: The primary concern for today will be the building heat in Georgia and the Carolinas. A Heat Advisory remains in place for portions of eastern Georgia where highs in the upper 90s and dewpoints in the low 70s should support peak heat indices in the 104 to 106 degree range between noon and 8 PM today. These conditions could be hazardous for unprepared or vulnerable populations (elderly, children and pets). Precautions should be taken, like staying hydrated, utilizing AC and shifting outdoor activities to the morning and evening hours to avoid potential heat related illnesses. Areas of patchy dense fog are possible in west central Georgia (including Columbus) between 4 AM and 9 AM today. Fog formation should be supported by light winds and surface dewpoints that have been pumped up by yesterday`s rainfall. The odds of a Dense Fog Advisory being issued less than 25%. Isolated diurnally driven thunderstorms will be possible along the GA/AL border and in the mountains of north Georgia this afternoon. A building upper level ridge should lead to less overall storm coverage compared to what occurred yesterday. Severe weather is unlikely today, but anyone enjoying outdoor activities should monitor for lightning between 1 PM and 9 PM. Hotter for Sunday: Upper level ridging will continue to build over Georgia on Sunday, leading to rising 850 mb temperatures and increasing subsidence. Surface temperatures should respond to these conditions by inching upwards by 1 to 3 degrees compared to today. With this in mind, confidence in Heat Advisory conditions in eastern Georgia is high (>80% chance), and thus a Heat Advisory has been issued. The hottest conditions will be felt between noon and 8 PM when peak heat indices between 104 and 108 degrees are anticipated in the Advisory area. Further westward expansion of the Heat Advisory may be considered by later shifts. The odds of the Advisory being expanded into the Atlanta Metro are less than 20%. Albright && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 221 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 Key Messages: - An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for portions of east- central Georgia for Monday. Dangerous heat is expected to persist through early next week. - Warm overnight temperatures will do little to provide any relief from the heat. - Isolated daily afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances are expected on Monday, with increasing chances through the week. Hot conditions and gradually increasing rain chances are expected for this next week. Mid and upper level ridging will become centered over the Southeast through the majority of the period setting the stage for above-normal temperatures, rising heat indices, and isolated rain and thunder chances initially. Strong subsidence beneath the ridge will keep rain and thunder chances more isolated in nature on Monday. Thus, with the lack of any steering or notable forcing chances for precip will largely be determined by local effects (residual or remnant outflows, influence of sea breezes, etc.). But as ridging retrogrades (and somewhat flattens) in response to troughing across the northeast and low-level moisture across the region, rain and thunder chances are forecast to begin increasing by Tuesday. Latest global deterministic models and ensembles indicate this trend as well as the potential for a front to slowly sink southward across the TN Valley and a weak surface low developing to our east/southeast around mid to late week. Resulting once again in those higher rain chances from Wednesday through the end of the week. Details regarding the movement and progression of these features will continue to be refined in the coming days. The main story though is the heat. Growing confidence in the occurrence of dangerous heat across our forecast area led to the issuance of an Excessive Heat Watch for portions of east-central GA (including Macon) for Monday. It is in this watch area that heat index values are forecast to exceed 110. Forecast high temperatures on Monday will climb into the upper 90s to low 100s across the majority of the forecast area (with the exception of the northeast GA mountains). With similar conditions forecast for Tuesday additional heat headlines may be warranted. Even for mid to late July, these temperatures are well above normal -- some 7 to 12 degrees above. Please keep the heat in mind if you (or your family or pets) plan to spend any amount of time outdoors! Unfortunately, once the sun goes down, there will be little reprieve from the hot and humid conditions. Forecast lows will range from the mid 70s to low 80s each night (upper 60s to low 70s in the northeast GA mountains). Daytime temperatures will come down slightly Wednesday through Friday with forecast highs in the low to mid 90s each day and heat index values still approaching 105 at many locations. So while not as oppressive, still hot and humid. Thus, heat headlines may still be needed. 07 && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 121 AM EDT Sat Jul 26 2025 Areas of fog and ceilings in the 100 to 500 ft range are expected in west central Georgia between 09Z and 14Z today. KCSG may be impacted by these conditions (70% chance). Isolated thunderstorms may occur along the GA/AL border or in the north Georgia mountains between 19Z today and 01Z Sunday. Winds will be from the west at 2 to 8 kt through 18Z Sunday. //ATL Confidence...06Z Update... Very low confidence (10% chance) in low ceilings or fog at ATL between 10Z and 13Z today.
