057 FXUS62 KFFC 082347 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 747 PM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025 ...New 00Z Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 740 PM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025 - A cold front will bring lingering showers to central Georgia into tonight, and a few isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, though the risk is diminishing. - A cooler airmass will move in on Thursday and Friday, leading to widespread highs temperatures in the 70s. - Dry weather and gradually warming conditions are expected this weekend and early next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Thursday) Issued at 740 PM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025 This Evening & Tonight: A cold front will continue to push through Georgia as we move into the overnight hours. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue along and ahead of the cold front, with rainfall largely confidence to portions of central Georgia. An additional pocket of light rainfall will be possible in northeast Georgia between 7 PM and 2 AM as a weak shortwave slides out of the Carolinas. Total rainfall with either feature should be light, with amounts in northeast Georgia limited to a couple hundredths and totals in central generally below a quarter of an inch. Marginal instability (MUCAPE generally below 1000 J/kg), poor lapse rates (700-500 mb values near 5 C/km) and a lack of shear ahead of the front should keep any thunderstorms in central Georgia well below severe limits this evening. High pressure building over the Ohio Valley will drive a moderately strong wedge front through Georgia overnight. CAA behind the front will bring cooler air and breezy northeast winds. Wind gusts in the 15 to 25 mph range are expected in north and central Georgia by sunrise on Thursday. This will be a break from out typical diurnal wind trends. Thursday: The primary weather story for Thursday will be the significantly cooler temperatures. Afternoon high temperatures should be 8 to 12 degrees cooler than today, with the change being driven by a combination of the cold front, wedge front and cloud cover. Widespread afternoon highs in the 70s are expected, with elevations above 2500 ft in the mountains remaining in the 60s. An isolated shower could occur south of Macon in the morning, but the rest of the region will be dry. && .LONG TERM... (Friday morning through next Tuesday) Issued at 740 PM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025 By Friday...Will see high pressure building down the eastern seaboard and pushing into NW GA. A cooler/drier airmass moves in with this ridge so expecting cloud cover to diminish slowly through Friday night. There is also a wave along the tail end of the old front which begins to develop and becomes a closed low center just off the GA/Carolina coast by early Sat morning. This low is expected to continue to develop as it moves up the eastern seaboard through Monday. This low center will wrap up quickly pulling whats left of the old frontal boundary NE with it and allowing a drier airmass to filter in to the state from the N/NE. This will bring mostly clear skies and cooler fall like temps through Sunday. Will see high temps mainly in the 70s Friday through Sunday with some 60s in the NE GA mountains. Low temps in the 40s and 50s will be seen state wide through Monday morning as well. Temps begin to warm back up Monday with highs in the 70s and 80s with most locations seeing temps back into the 80s by Tuesday. && .AVIATION...
